Bachelor of Science in SOCIAL WORK (BSSW)
Social work is a profession concerned with helping individuals, families, groups and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. It aims to help people develop their skills and their ability to use their own resources and those of the community to resolve problems. Social work is concerned with individual and personal problems but also with broader social issues such as poverty, unemployment and domestic violence.
The Social Works programs aims to:
- Form future social workers imbued with sense of responsibility towards God and society thus contributing to the building of a Christian community.
- Foster appreciation and understanding of the philosophical values that underlie the practice of social work in the field of social welfare.
- Develop social workers who are equipped with the knowledge and skills for social work practice.
- Prepare students for the practice of social work profession using the specific body of knowledge, skills and attitudes in working with individuals, groups and communities.
- Develop professionally trained Christian social workers competent and committed to meet the challenges of contemporary times within global, national and local perspective.
- Acquire competence in critical thinking, analysis, problem solving, bringing needs and resources together and documenting the experience learned.
- Develop awareness of the need to work as partners and collaborators with the various sectors of society which include the Church, the government, and the non-government organizations within the framework of philosophy and objectives of the school and of the College of Social Work.
