NEWS UPDATE – SHC Dedicates Newly Built Chapel
LUCENA CITY—Sacred Heart College of Lucena City, Inc. held the Solemn Dedication and Turning Over Ceremony of the newly built chapel on May 10, 2025.
The event began with a Eucharistic Mass led by His Excellency, Most Rev. Mel Rey M. Uy, D.D., together with Most Rev. Emilio Z. Marquez, D.D., and 12 other priests.
The Mass commenced with the presentation of important documents conducted by Ar. Geraud Christophe Cabangon and Engr. Recaredo L. Sarmiento IV, followed by the blessing and sprinkling of water by the presiders.
Attendees then proclaimed their faith through communal prayer and the Liturgy of the Word.
In the homily, Rev. Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “The dedication of the chapel reminds us of God’s steady guiding hand, even through the fire that served, paradoxically yet providentially, the resurgence of Sacred Heart College.”
The homily was followed by the profession of faith, the litany of saints, and the prayer of dedication.
The inauguration included a solemn anointing of the altar and walls with chrism oil, the washing of hands, and the incensation of the altar and the people.
The main event concluded with the turning over ceremony, featuring the unveiling of the SHC Chapel marker, along with final words from major contributors—without whom the project would not have been possible.
Sr. Maria Ana Rosario G. Evidente, DC, the Visitatrix of the Province of St. Louise de Marillac – Asia, said, “This chapel is more than a structure of stone and glass. It is the sanctuary rooted in the faith-filled legacy of Hermana Fausta Labrador, whose devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and trust in divine providence laid the spiritual foundation of this noble institution.”
SHC also organized a gallery viewing in the Hermana Fausta Lounge, featuring historical remnants and the highlight of the gallery—the unveiling of the “Heart Wall,” a symbol of gratitude celebrating the generous hearts whose support helped rebuild the school after the unfortunate fire that burned down the beloved institution.
The event concluded with a feast at the Hermana Fausta Lounge and the SLM 5th floor, where visitors, personnel, the SHC Rebuild Team, Daughters of Charity, and priests gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion.
The chapel, as Dr. Lloyd L. Alzola said, is “especially for you, students. Let this be a place where you can grow in faith, find peace and prayer, and hear God’s voice amidst life’s many challenges.”
