NEWS UPDATE – SHC Celebrates 141 Years of Love and Service

LUCENA CITY—On the 26th of April 2025, Sacred Heart College celebrated its 141st Founding Anniversary with an Alumni Homecoming titled “Homecoming 2025: A Cordian Jubilee Year Celebration” featuring The “Feast” with the Light of Jesus Community.

The legacy that Hermana Fausta started proceeds to burn in the hearts of Cordians 141 years later, and this marks a significant milestone. Mr. Narciso Cruzat, Jr., the Vice President for Student Development, Well-Being, and External Linkages (SDWEL), said that “this is something very special for us Cordians because in celebration of the 141st anniversary founding the institution, this coincides our third Jubilee year celebration. Every 25 years, our church celebrates this, and this year, very timely, we have this ‘pilgrims of hope’.”

He added, “This year, we are conducting a project to build a certain house for our adopted family in our adopted community, which is called “BALAI Kordiano”, and this is in response to the passion of the late Father Pope Francis of solving what we call ‘homelessness’.”

Prior to this, the celebration started with the activity “7 Prayer Stations and Confessions” allowing Cordians to make this not only a time for celebration but also a time for reflection.

Proceeding this, selected bands featuring students, parents, and alumni showcased their talent as they performed live on the SLM stage.

A Holy Eucharistic Celebration was also held by Rev. Fr. Ramil Esplana, who encouraged Cordians to believe and say “Yes! My Lord, my God” because similar to the resurrection of our Lord, 141 years is not “too good to be true” but rather a blessing that our God made both possible and true.

After the celebration of the Eucharistic Mass, the second part of the program began with an Opening Number led by Ms. Hazel San Gil, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and College Hymn.

The Alumni President of the institution, Ms. Nelly Sernilla, also gave her welcoming remarks acknowledging the contributions of every Cordian Alumnus who keeps the Cordian Spirit ablaze in their hearts as they continue to serve people through their different sectors or field of work.

Cordians were also given the chance to demonstrate their dance prowess as they performed a community dance: “Onwards, Pilgrims of Hope”.

Sister President Maria Luisa B. Javier then took up the stage to impart an inspirational message to the dear Cordians, saying “Graduating Sacred Heart College does not end our engagement with you. We continue to journey, maybe not physically but spiritually. We are trying to see that you live out what you have learned in Sacred Heart College. The very essence of education in Sacred Heart is for the students to study for life. Education is for life, never for grades.”

With that, the awarding of Cordian Alumni Achievers began. This year, a handful of Cordian Alumnus were fortunate to receive an honorable recognition.
