SHC-HED amplifies Safe Spaces Awareness

Lucena City, QUEZON- Advocating for safer and more inclusive communities, the Girl Scouts of the Philippines in collaboration with the Student Executive Council spearheaded an engaging seminar titled as “Creating Safe Spaces: Empowering Communities to End Violence ” as part of their campaign against Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Saint Louise de Marillac Building, Rooms 513-515.
The program commenced at 1:00 PM with participants of different socio-civic organizations gathering to address societal concerns regarding harassment and violence in everyday setting. The program started with a solemn prayer led by Cdt. Girl Scout Cyril Guzma followed by a heartfelt opening remarks by Pres. Alexis Sumilang of the Student Executive Council.
The highlight of the event was a presentation by Atty. Rhaetia “Shine” Abcede-Llaga, who provided insights into the Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313). Atty “Shine” emphasized its role in addressing harassment and violence, particularly against women and children, in public spaces, workplaces, and online platforms. During her talk, she also discussed practical steps for victims to seek assistance while reiterating the role of the law in mitigating such concerns.
The program transitioned into an engaging Open Forum where participants asked questions, shared some insights and seek clarifications about the implementation of the Safe Spaces Act. This interactive segment allowed for a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions related to violence and harrasment.
The event concluded with participants leaving inspired to advocate for safe and equitable environments. By addressing such a prevalent issue, the SHC-Girl Scouts of the Philippines reinforced their commitment to empowering individuals and communities to stand against violence and harassment.
