Cordian leaders gathered during the Vincentian Leadership Training (VLT) with the theme: “ Solidifying Cordians’ Mission Towards Renewed Evangelization” held at SHC Rendu Cultural Gymnasium, September 28-29.

A total of 250 student leaders took part in the event from different religious, socio-cultural, scholastic and academic organizations from the Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) up to `the Higher Education Department (HED)

Simultaneous Exposure Immersion

Participants of the said leadership training were set off to a half-day exposure immersion of SHC’s partner communities namely; Reception Action Center (RAC), Padre Burgos, Badjao Barra, Landfill and Ibabang Talim; for them to experience the living situations of the people in the mentioned communities and what they could do to help. “Habang makakalakad ka, maglakad ka” One young leader from the Ibabang Talim group shared these words that was imparted from his adoptive family. A forum was held between the leaders where they discussed the struggles of the respective communities, and how to address it properly.

Forums

The organizers of the leadership training made sure that the event would be filled with fun team building experiences and rich forums that would develop positive attitude towards leadership.

After the discussion of the exposure, Mr. Rey Rodil, Director of Student Activities, Development and Discipline and one of the organizers, challenged the participants to use not only their eyes but their vision to see the bigger picture and a brighter picture.

The activity was composed of four forums each focused on topics designed to hone the Vincentian values and sharpen the minds of the participants.

Rev. Warren J. Puno talks about “Creation Spirituality vis-à-vis Quezon Province’s People & Environment” in which he reminded all those present in the venue that “…there is no planet B or planet C. We only have the earth and we should take good care of it” “Being a Cordian is a responsibility. As a leader, a Cordian, a Vincentian, you carry responsibility” Mr. Narciso G. Cruzat Jr, Vice President for Student Development and Welfare, imparts during his talk on “Seeing and Discerning the Challenges from St. Vincent & Louise’s Eyes to Ours”

Board Member Iris Armando discusses the “Presentation of Quezon Province Youth Development Plan” She explains the need for Sanggunian Kabatan and its upcoming projects which as she puts “made by the youth for the youth.” Lastly, our very own Engr. Gerardo Navela with Mrs. Vilma Oronan, SHC’s COP and & SWMP Development & Updates, talks about the successful Community Projects and advocacies. Participants were allowed to ask questions and share their opinion on the topic after the speakers are done.

Project Proposal

The participants were grouped according to their respective departments and were given time to discuss amongst themselves a project proposal related to their department’s course for one of the partner communities they visited, to be presented by their Cordian Ambassador and Ambassadress candidates.

“As leaders, we serve our followers by making their lives better” Hans Xavier Reyes, SEC President, commented in during his MCing after the presentation of the project proposals.

The first day of the Vincentian Leadership Training ended in a Tanze Prayer and the second day ended in a closing prayer. Hans Xavier Reyes and Rica Fiona Labitigan were the Masters of Ceremony.
