“Fire and earthquake drills alert Cordians

As part of the Disaster Awareness Month, Sacred Heart Collehe once again conducted a fire and earthquake drill participated by all students and personnel, July 28.

During the drill, students of the Higher Education Department and the Basic Education Department evacuated their respective buildings and proceeded to their assigned areas. Students in the college building and the Higher BED students stayed in the college ground while the elementary students and other staff were in the BED ground and parking area.

The rescuers from the Bureau of Fire Protection of Lucena City put off a fire setup in the college building. Simultaneous rescues were also done in the different areas of the campus.

Members of the Disaster Management Team, composed of SHC personnel, monitored the evacuation of students and performed the rescues.

Moreover, selected BS Nursing and AB Communication students participated in the event as the acting health respondents and news team, respectively.

This institutional activity was spearheaded by Mr. Arnel Cadeliña, in collaboration with Engr. Elda Aranilla, chairperson of the Health and Safety Committee, the Lucena Disaster Coordinating Council where Ms. Lourdes Recanto is the officer in charge, the Bureau of Fire Protection headed by Major Inciong, the City Health Office, the Lucena Police and other SHC personnel.

The drill was conducted to urge awareness among students and personnel on what the necessary precautions are to ensure safety during such situations.

A Certificate of Recognition signed by Ramon Y. Talaga, city mayor, was given to Sacred Heart College for its “commendable efforts” during the conducted drills.

“In general, the drill was a success. After the activity, we evaluated the drill and good comments were given. I’m happy to see the collaborative efforts of the disaster management team, the BSN students who gave their excellent medical assistance, those other personnel and students who participated in the activity” said Engr. Aranilla.
