On the occasion of the Feast of Annunciation (March 25), six (6) Daughters of Charity Sisters from Sacred Heart College joined thousands of DC sisters around the world in their annual renewal of vows at the Rendu Cultural Center and Gymnasium.
“This will not only be a simple renewal of devotion, but we chose to commit ourselves to God by making this vow over again,” said Sr. Ma. Luisa B. Javier DC, school president. “Our vows differ from those of most religious in so far as they are annual, and we also take a vow of service of persons who are poor as well as the usual vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience,” she added.
Along with Sr. Javier who renewed their vows in SHC were Sr. Aubrey Casimiro, DC, Sr. Maria Brenda Villarin, Sr. Maria Ruby Engay, DC, Sr. Consuelo Requinto, DC, and Sr. Soledad Espaldon, DC.
The celebration of the Holy Mass was officiated by Msgr. Dennis Imperial.
The annual vows for the service of the poor have become part of the identity of the Daughters of Charity and are recognized by the church. The sisters look forward each year to the Feast of the Annunciation when they must choose to commit themselves all over again, and a great current of renewal sweeps through the entire Company, which is now established in about 90 countries all over the globe.
