Cordian Communicators Challenge the Senior High to a Journey of Infinite Possibilities

The AB Communication of Sacred Heart College (SHC), Lucena City, also known as Cordian communicators, organized a simple promotional event specially intended for the Senior High School students of SHC. It was a two-day promotion held last February 4 and 5, 2020 at the ABComm’s Radio Booth and the Radio and TV Production Laboratory.

The special promotional event was organized by the officers of the Cordian Communication Society led by President Shaira Andaya, Vice President Jezrhyll Kate Bernal and Secretary Shayna Joyce Par. The promotion was done simultaneously to accommodate 18 sections from the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) track, the Science, Technology and Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) track and the Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) track.

SHC administrators, Dr. Aurora Navela, Vice President for Academics, Dr. Lucila Baroro, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Teacher and General Education, and Dr. Maria Zorayda Torres, Program Head of AB Communication and SHC Promotion Officer, were present to support the event and to inspire both the the Senior High to make AB Communication their course and SHC their choice in college.

Each session started with a soulful singing of the prayer rendered by Gabrielle Jumarang and Ivy Grace Lingayo, both First Year AB Communication students, and who were also the emcees in the program. Various creative presentations were done to highlight the strength of AB Communication students in audiovisual presentations. A comprehensive and interesting background about the course was presented by Alexza Laureta and Ayessa Natividad, First Year AB Communication. They discussed the program description, facilities and equipment, career opportunities and the work immersion or practicum that AB Communication students could have. With the help of Dr. Torres and the other officers, some misconceptions about the course were cleared, e.g., an expensive course, limited job opportunities, among others. The discussion enlightened the Senior High that AB Communication can offer limitless career possibilities as long as the student is performing well and is willing to learn. The passport to a good career are good performance and favorable attitude.

The Senior High were also given the chance to watch two of the award-winning video documentaries of AB Communication in 2016 and 2017. These are “Kampay” and “Biyahe” which bagged the Gold and Silver awards in the 6th and 7th Annual EdukCircle Documentary Making Competition, respectively. The video showing served to showcase the expertise of AB Communication in producing high quality video documentaries which are at par with top universities and colleges nationwide.

To add to the Senior High’s interest, First Year students George Arcaya, Mary Shaira Gequinto and Ivy Lingayo, as well as Second Year student Shayna Joyce Par shared with the Senior High their experiences as AB Communication and why they opted to enrol in the course. They highlighted certain events and activities that they were privileged to participate in and the competitions that they have won. One recent competition was the 2019 DTI Jingle making competition where Shayna Joyce Par and Gabrielle Jumarang won 3rd place.

Topping the Senior High’s excitement was the presentation of the well-produced and very relatable outputs by five very talented and hardworking Senior High on-the-job trainees. They were Joshua Bool, Dorothy Ibarrola, Gen Gacer, EJ Glinoga and Marko Lorenzo Tolentino. The AB Communication organizers proudly presented the video teaser and radio plug entitled “Tara, AB Comm!.” Produced the “Gen Z” way, these outputs were intended to promote AB Communication among incoming first year students for SY 2020-2021 and entice them to enrol in the course.

In closing, AB Comm’s Program Head, Dr. Torres, expressed her gratitude to the Senior High School for responding to their invitation. She is positive that more fruitful collaborations will come as the new school year approaches when a new breed of creative, passionate and performing first year students join the SHC AB Communication family.

This two-day promotional event was made possible through the team effort of the Cordian Communication Society with the assistance of Mr. Earl Gicana, part-time faculty in AB Communication and SHC Promotion Assistant. The creative design of the venues was spearheaded by Anjaneth Aco and Loi Paderes, First Year AB Communication.
